Lost Verses

A line flashed across my mind To begin a poem I should write But the line stood all alone And the poem never took flight When dawn came with a drizzle of rain It inspired a poetic refrain But the refrain dried up in sunrays And no more verses came again In twilight shades there came a rhyme And poetic thoughts were engaged But the rhymes faded as night fell And the poem never hit the page As I strolled in the starry night The twinkling stars inspired a verse But the verse to the ebon winds were blown And my inspiration soon dispersed 10-9-2022

Isn't that how it goes--we think we'll remember and poof! it's gone. Your poem states that very beautifully.

But not writing that poem was to your advantage because look what you created. Another excellent poem. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer

Love this another favorite Joseph. I love how you wrote this. Craig Cornish had a contest. Poems I never wrote. This would have been a great entry. One of the best that I have seen and read...

It is amazing how a line that would be perfect can disappear like that. Reads like a good contender for the contest to me. Way to go. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

Joseph, your use of metaphors is really fantastic, and they perfectly capture the spirit of your poetry. You did an excellent job of illustrating how difficult it is to captivate the muse, which is one of the reasons why so numerous poems are never penned. Nevertheless, your inspiration came through with this poem.

"The line stood all alone, and the poem never took flight." I believe we can all relate. At this moment, my muse seems to be hiding in the shadows. Patiently I'm waiting, for her to emerge. This is beautiful in every way. May your thoughts continue to embrace the sky. Hugs, Brandy

True to poetic life, Joseph--you conveyed well the elusive muse that is hard to catch and why so many poems never get written. Yet, your muse delivered with this poem.
