Long and lonely days lost by hope in quiet song from sounds this wishful heart has pawned lay broken neath my endless thoughts of you Nights in sleepless dreams giving way to sunless dawns casting spells that right these wrongs fade in shadows chasing love I thought I knew O how I hoped you'd know how much I really loved you so and how my heart could never let you go be my life and dry these tears hear only silence from my fears Long and lonely days made in memories laid bare by hopes of what we might've shared from promises left by your sweet caress Times I can't forget lost in moments gone before like sand that's cast on distant shores from tides that's swept with waves of changing fate O how I hoped you'd know how much I really loved you so and how my heart could never let you go be my life and dry these tears be my love and hold me near First verse taken from previous posted poem Alone

...back to re-read after reading the single verse poem "Alone". You have penned deep, heartbreaking lyrics that convey haunting imagery of one exposed, heart laid bare. Don't we all wish for "one to truly know us". I would love to know the music to accompany your beautiful lyrics Charlie. This is a beauty xo

Thank you Lynn, I wrote it to the music of Don McClain's "Starry Starry night".

Really nice lyric Charlie, I liked the repeating verses, has a lyrical quality to it. I'm getting a sentimental folky kind of vibe from this, definitely feels like a song.

I'm so glad you read this one John. I was really wanting to know what the lyric king thought of this one. I am embarking on a little project to write a song for my niece's wedding. I would love for you to critique it when finished. Thanks Charlie...

Hello Charlie. Wow. I can actually hear this and vision this as a song. Honestly. The title is marvelous and you never strayed. This truly is beautiful in every way. Have a wonderful day. Well done entirely.

I love your choice of words in this lovely heartfelt poem, Charlie. I was especially captivated by "sounds this wistful heart has pawned". Wish I could think of clever stringing of words like that. Never thought of using the word pawn like that. Lovely...I hope she hears and dries your tears.

Your words feel desperately barren, as though each one was sheer agony to put from pen to paper, thus making the loss of hope 'real', a finality with only loneliness left in it's place. A place where your beautiful thoughts are deigned to be shared in exuberant bliss, we are humming a melody of one heart's innermost desire to live 'with' hope, than without. A deeply sad, beautifully expressed lyric Charlie..a fave, 7 lynnxxx

This is a beautiful though nostalgic piece Charlie - As the Seeker says, it also reminds me of the song 'Honey' - by Bobby Goldsboro . Thank you for sharing your poetic inspiration and your nostalgia. Big 7 ... Maria

A well-earned seven for this one Charlie. Thank you for your kind visit in an overly-competitive climate on PS. One visitor came once only, to tell me what type of poetry to write (neither peace nor praise for any thing, haiku included). I have learned to return favors twice over: Shalom, SHALOM!
