Lemon Pie In September

Lemon Pie in September

Born in September my husband’s mother
In the middle of the wheat harvest
Beneath sapphire blue autumn skies
While she loved chocolate
Lemon pie stole her heart and mine
Each year I made a birthday lemon pie for her
In September I still make a lemon pie to remember.

Dedicated to my mother-in-law Marcelle.

I love how you describe the skies as "sapphire blue" My mother used to make lemon meringue pies w/ big white meringue curls. Gosh, your poem brought back that nice memory for me. It's so pretty. Marcelle must have enjoyed each bite of your lemon delight.

Hi again! It was such a joy to remember making all of those lemon meringue pies for my mother-in-law! My grandmother introduced me to lemon pie and she, too, made the big white meringue swirls!!! So happy this poem brought back happy memories for you! Thank you for your visit and your delightful message. Happy New Year! Blessings of cheer!

Though she is gone, you make a lemon pie to remember her ! I see the bond between the mother (in law) and daughter (in law) so intact. A lovely tribute. Congratulaions dear Sam on your well deserved win.

Thank you so much Valsa! I am so happy that you saw into the heart of this poem - my relationship with my mother-in-law. The lemon pie in September has become a vibrant symbol of our relationship and I remember her every time I make this delicious pie that both of us loved. Seems one of my daughter-in-laws shares the same love of lemon pie so the tradition continues. Our other daughter-in-law isn't a lemon fan. :( Sending you all the blessings of the season dear friend!

Hi SuZ! You are so right! Making a lemon pie for mom's birthday always gave me great joy! And I know she not only loved the pie but appreciated the effort in her birthday celebration. Even now September just wouldn't be September without a lemon pie! Thank you so much for your congratulations! So glad you enjoyed this "slice" of life! Blessings!

Thank you so much Paulette! While we didn't always see eye to eye, we shared many wonderful moments making jam, cooking for parties, sewing together, family trips to favorite places, Christmas tree hunting. I was very blessed to have her as a mother-in-law. This contest was a wonderful chance to give tribute to her through another thing we shared - love of lemon pie! Sending you blessings!

Hi Andrea! Can you tell how far behind I am in answering messages?! Yikes! I am so happy that you enjoyed this tribute to my mother-in-law. She loved the color yellow and anything lemon. September would not be September without a lemon pie! Your delightful contest gave me the opportunity to write about mom and lemon pie. Thank you for you for your placement and all that you do here on the soup! Sweet blessings to you my friend as you revel in the beauty of fall in the Wasatch!

She was a very special, giving lady - lady in every sense of the word. While we didn't always agree I was very blessed to have her as my mother-in-law. I so loved delighting her with a lemon pie each year and I know she loved this tradition! We have a special club - lemon pie lovers! Fun to know your husband is one of us! Thank you for your message. Made me :)" Blessings of the season to you!

Hi Kelly! Thank you so much for your wonderful visit and heart touching message. I so agree! Special family recipes from beloved family members almost brings them back to life again as we enjoy their tasty and delicious contributions to happy memories. Each year I bake my grandmother's applesauce cake for the family. I can still see her in her kitchen preparing this special holiday treat. I wrote a poem about her applesauce cake called, of all things, Applesauce Cake. Many thanks for your best wishes. Enjoy your family's gourmet treasures! All the best. Blessings of the season to you.
