Lament of My Life
I was told once that I would die still beautiful,
And with ivory skin I lay in repose;
Soon my time in this tangled earthly realm will close,
My legacy gift- my written words dramatic.
A promise, that I know will be kept dutiful,
Oh, lay my poems upon me and close the lid;
Sister, you promised and I will know if you did.
My life from the beginning has been quite tragic,
So sad with loss but with great moments of magic.
Oh, I will miss the green forests and the flowing streams,
My family, pets and all my wonderful dreams;
In my ramblings the beloved departed I would bid.
As a palliative nurse I saw the dying die,
And I made it peaceful- oh, I will miss the sky.
