Kingfisher

A flash of colour, fast in flight Oh kingfisher, what joy you incite This walk on just a simple day Attempt to shed layers of grey You are here with orange and blue My mood is switched to different hue I dragged my feet, weighted by woes So many troubles sought to enclose Your own habitat is under threat But you carry on, don't stop to fret I need to be inspired by this sight Stop seeing wrongs, reaffirm to right Your numbers decline, I feel stab of pain There is no promise I'll see you again I watch as you hover and you dash Here in beauty then gone in a flash It is a story we'll all play through I'm no different, same path as you I'll live and die but whilst I'm here Can I be unperturbed with strife so near Carry on in beauty and with grace See time alive as wholesome space Not dredge the waters, soaked in worry Move forward, with joy of pause and hurry Thank you my fleeting, colourful friend You've changed my view of 'nigh is the end' 2nd place

Indeed so beautiful and inspiring ! I too love to watch Kingfishers. They are sadly decreasing in number. The entire species of the Earth faces threat. I particularly liked the concluding line. All the Best DD

Thank you Valsa, it is sad. The joy seen on the faces of those that spot them is a joy in itself! I was pleased with my last line when it appeared - like a secret message to myself x
