Jessica's Mother's Hands True Story

Little Jessica was six years old. Her mother walked her to school everyday and she would pick her up from school and walk her home. As Jessica and her mom would walk to school, Jessica's little friends in her class would pick on Jessica. Saying her mom had ugly hands. Her Mother's hands appeared somewhat deformed red, and scarred. This went on for a while and Jessica came home one day and went to her room and cried out loud on her bed, yelling I hate Mommy's Hands. She was having a breakdown from all the teasing the kids at school were teasing her about. She had enough and at that very moment she vented her anger toward her Mother. During this episode of Anger and Crying Jessica's father heard, and ran up to Jessica's room to find out why Jessica was Crying and Yelling. " I hate Mommy's hands." She would say over and over. Her father asked Jessica to calm down and asked why she was upset. Jessica explained to him that when Mommy took her to school her classmates would notice her Mother's hands and laugh and make fun of them and tell Jessica how ugly they were. Her father realized what had happened and He said." Jessica sit up Honey." Jessica sat up on the bed, her father said," Honey I am going to tell you why your Mommy's Hands look the way they do. When you were a baby there was a second floor fire in our house, and you were in your room in your crib. Your Mommy climbed up to the second floor of the house grabbing the burning gutter, making her way up climbing. Each time when she touched the gutter she would burn her hand. She never gave up until she rescued you from the fire. That is why your Mommy's hands look the way they do. She loved you so much that she did not stop climbing even though her hands were being burned. Jessica now knew what her mom had done, and her tears began to flow. Jessica waited patiently for her mom. When her Mom arrived Jessica gave her mother a big hug and told her Mother she had the most beautiful hands in the whole world. She then kissed them and told her mother she loved her. Jessica's mother did not understand what had happened, until her husband later explained to her what had happened at school. Jessica was proud to hold her Mother's hand and when she got to school she told everyone why her Mother's hands look like they did. Her school friends never said another word to her after learning the story behind Jessica's Mother's Lovely Hands. Michael Tor

Those children learned a valuable lesson, for sure. A very touching story, Michael. Sometimes it takes reality to help guide us to the goodness of life. Hopefully it did for those children. Thanks for sharing this heartbreaking story with us.

Yes Charlie they learned a valuable lesson. What a wonderful mother she was to burn for her child and to save their child. I would have done the same thing or have died trying. Thank you for stopping by Charlie it is always nice to see and read your comments. God bless you my friend...

Forget about the children. They teased Jessica seeing her mother's ugly hands. They cannot be blamed because they are so naive. But think of the grown ups. They judge people seeing their outward appearance and hardly see the inner worth of the person or run to conclusions without knowing the whole story. A touching story so beautifully narrated. Well done Michael.

A tale with a great moral, with great expression of what true love can do, and what Satan can influence in humans to do to destroy one of God's lovely creations. I enjoyed reading this short story. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

Michael, your narrative was not only emotionally touching and painful, but it was also beautifully written and had many meaningful metaphors. This is a fantastic tale that also has a valuable lesson for the readers. Regrettably, tongues seem to get the better of thoughts much too frequently.

Her father may also have told her about one of the greatest guitarists ever, Django Rheinhardt, despite a hand burned and deformed and mangled, beyond repair. Moving story, Michael. Enjoyed your narrative.

A beautiful story, well told, Michael. How often do we not know the whole story but jump to reckless conclusions only from what we know? There is a marvelous moral to this story.

Thank you Milton I agree it happens so often. I always ask the question why are we so easy to judge. This was a physical visual condition. How can someone make mockery of such an ailment. I guess the answer is they were kids and they did not know better till they were taught not to do so. There is a moral to the story Milton like you have cleverly realized. Thank you for your insightful comment my friend...
