Grammer is so tricky, there are so many confusing and contradictory rules, but it all goes back to the word's origins, and the English language is influenced by so many others - if you asked my eighth grade English teacher 'Can I go to the bathroom?' he would always say, 'I don't know, can you?' A little snide, but something I still remember all these years later!
