In Wind and Rain

My hair falls free in wind and rain
And in sun, it flows free again.
No scarf nor cloth shall press my locks,
Nor bargain me in dismal frocks.
Around my neck I wear no chain.

I brush my hair, I snap my mane.
The banal bonnet I disdain.
I listen not where evil talks.
My hair falls free

Cast not a slur to Music's strain;
Music that lets my hair remain
In wild, symphonic flowing locks
That spurs remarks in envious talks.
My hair falls free in wind and rain.

Thank you. It was written from some random thoughts, probably in the shower where the flow of water seems to stir my mind.

Your poem evokes a strong emotional response, mainly due to its nostalgia and the warm, safe feeling it conveys.

Well done for your POTD. I must have missed this but I have been thinking mostly of the death of my wife's sister. A deserving poem.

"Cast not a slur to Music's strain" emphasises effort that is hidden by flow, I think.

Music of freedom, not inward self awareness but a sympatico to the hum of the universe, as hair catches this tempo in free flow. Thank you for reading.

Brilliant poetry! It is like that wild steed owning the pasture. I can see your closer to nature background, perhaps growing up on a farm or ranch. While a city can be a trove of new inspiration...there is also greater chance for loss of purity. Truths that should be retained at all cost. Oh, just saw this is a POTD. I agree. Congratulations!

Dear Hilda, Congrats on POTD that has this breezy confidence I enjoyed, like you’re shrugging off the world’s fussing and letting the weather do the styling. Charming how seriously the form behaves while the speaker refuses to. A little flick of the head: my hair falls free. It made me smile. Blessings, Hilda, Daniel
