In a Heartbroken State

"We can choose either to remain heartbroken all the time or with resilience, come back to cheer, as true happiness primarily stems from inside and not through external factors alone. Our happiness is mostly dependent on our way of thinking and how we see life"..... By Poet

She heard the sound of pigeons overhead.
Looking up she saw them whirling
forming emerging patterns in the sky.
They soared on and on until they
became fading black dots in the blue

Such sights would have sent her to raptures
sometime back, but now when she sees them,
she can only think of the years
speeding by and the chances missed
and her whole life- a fading black dot!

Under a virus of melancholy,
she walks with lacerations in her soul.
Pain consumes her without visible flame.
She's heartbroken with nothing to look for.
The world around her looks devoid of life.

She wages a lone battle inside,
to drive out demons of dejection.
But she feels as if a sharp knife,
is cutting deep right through her heart
and she winces at every chop.
Though she tries hard to cover her bruises,
they bleed red and make themselves known.

Pain has completely sucked her out.
In a vessel, she collects her tears,
hoping to water the parched terrain
of her drought- stricken dry domain.
Light has miserably betrayed her,
and now she lives in eternal darkness
fighting black shadows day in and out!

Dear Valsa, this poem covers the topic of despair and the emotional upheaval that comes with feelings of loss and regret. It dwells on the passing of time and the weight of squandered possibilities, resulting in a profound sense of sadness and isolation. The syntax is evocative and emotive, using vivid images to describe intense emotions. Words like "lacerations," "heartbroken," and "melancholy" convey a profound sense of pain.

It is sad to find ourselves in a life and world of darkness, my dear friend. Through the pain and suffering we bring upon ourselves, we learn that all Love, Light and Truth are seeds within us. Others may bring comfort when they share similar experiences of moments of clarity from their own seeds. Lasting, eternal peace and comfort can only be found when we know it is within ourselves and embrace it and place our faith in it. Let go and let His Spirit resonate with your Spirit. Love, Bill

This one reads like a good contender to me for the contest. It is emotive and expressive revealing some of the pain that a person who is suffering from depression goes through. Thanks for sharing. Sara K

Dear Valsa, I read and thought what a quiet storm, moving slowly and powerfully, flooding the page with truth too raw to hide from. Breathtaking honesty for happiness comes from within. Valsa it is such a haunting, beautiful piece. Summer Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Pain can be contained within paranthesis (as one author said), letting go at intervals, but until there is a solution of sorts, it is hard to find peace…but perhaps, peace we find but over and over again, at intervals. … The world around her looks devoid of life. … Pain has completely sucked her out - we must fight not to get to that point. Well done, Poet!

"Under a virus of melancholy" -- indeed, a degenerative virus. "In a vessel, she collects her tears, hoping to water the parched terrain of her drought-" - Wow, outstanding, heartfelt imagery. Great writing!
