who wants to settle in and freeze on a park bench… in a friend’s backyard… drip-drip, the dream of the hereafter what will you be thinking as you are sinking in your seat at the revelation of your death… looking back a mother who cradled your head most delicately…most carefully milk pools around the rose bed a smile seeps from the corner of your mouth or is it the realization that you can’t wake up your silk shirt on bare back would feel good…the color is good… better than your reflection in the dark

Your poem exhibits exceptional craftsmanship in its portrayal of death, Kim. I must admit, that I initially failed to grasp its profound exploration of mortality. The notion of succumbing to death, particularly in an unforeseen manner, is undeniably harrowing. Indeed, death is an undeniable and unequivocal aspect of our existence.

Kim , your poems are so profound ! the title has been deceiving ! O never thought it was something about one's end. Sinking into death is a frightening experience .... that too at an unexpected time. Death is a stark reality!

Thank you, dear Valsa! An unfortunate end for some. News recently: man on park bench and three friends in backyard froze to death. Unbelievable! God bless!

I felt the underlying tension between the mundane and reflections on death. The thoughts/realization of death were stark and memorable.

Yes who would want to go through that... you describe it so well.. I watched that movie about the plane that crashed in the Andes in 1972... shocking how 16 survived in that cold weather.. I forge the name now, but I know it has snow in it..

I just watched the movie and I also don’t know how they survived at all. Providence!

Dear Kim, Your poem sent shivers down my spine in the best way possible. The stark contrast between the mundane desire to settle in and the introspective ruminations on death created a tension that held me captive. The line "or is it the realization that you can't wake up" is a gut punch, confronting the finality of death with brutal honesty. Oh, a flicker of defiance in the appreciation of the silk shirt, a clinging to the sensuality of life even as it fades. A very powerful piece. -Daniel
