A sonnet in response to the line of enquiry for Unseeking Seeker's 'I saw God but now what' poetry contest.

Line of enquiry: Yes, I affirm, I have seen God But He appeared and then disappeared This knowing that transcends mind, left me awed But until what’s imbibed is assimilated, by fears I’m seared
As death whispered gently into my ear, a divine light appeared flashing in white. Was this a mere delusion to cause fear, or was my soul preparing to take flight. Teardrops bled to this soothing sacred gaze, as I prepared to be summoned back home. Life had left me lost in an endless maze, with no desire to find new roads to roam. But in this fleeting moment a voice spoke, "it's not your time, so alter your outlook." That was the juncture where my spirit woke, changing the mindset of what I had mistook. Blessed with heaven's touch of eternal grace, fears faded in my heart, where faith found its place.

The search for the meaning of life is often triggered by an intimacy with death, and it's knocking at our life's door... My mother told me when I was little, that I died when I was 14 months old, and the doctor managed to resuscitate me. Knowing that had a profound effect on my outlook on life, led to a search for God in many directions. It also made an impact on the value of life, in all living things. So really, I found God based on what my mother said, which I might never had been told. Fav

Hi Silent One,. I so enjoyed this poem and re-read it quite a few times. I can relate totally and can understand the awe you felt upon God's gaze on you, I heard Him I had a similar exp. but different. My father who was my everything was given 6 weeks to live after he had been diagnosed with bronchial cancer. I could not believe or accept these final words, was totally devastated. I sat alone at our dining room table crying.

This is when I heard God speaking to me in a modern manner and visualized a man dressed casually but knew it was God. ' Don't worry my girl, I will heal your father'. I felt an immediate calmness - my Father lived for a year and 8 months longer until the cancer metastasized and he died weighing 43 kilos from healthy 103 kilos. But God had given us all time to prepare ourselves for my father's journey to heaven. I know that is where he went for he was such a good man. Blessings my dear friend, Jennifer

Faith always finds its place. Even when we can't see God no more, he's there. Always there. Amazing sonnet, silent One.

Brilliant. Lots of spiritual allusions to the presence of God. A clever poem as you well can construe.

A touching sonnet, simple and sweet. When the grim reaper comes and stays by our side, with alarm and dread we realize that our earthly life is coming to an end. During this time of interplay of doubt and belief, agnosticism and faith, if we have grace lying dormant in us, it will suddenly resuscitate and bring about a sudden transformation in us. This moment is so vital and fortunately it turned out to be a redeeming moment for you. Beautiful sonnet and a great entry for the contest. All the Best dear Silent One.

a soulful poem, Silent One. Your rhyme scheme was effective and didn't distract for your overall story and journey -- one of both seeing and hearing God...a moment of transformation and enlightenment. Well done for the contest. Enjoy your evening, Sara

Seeing God must be a heavenly experience---though God is omnipresent. It must be the state of mind that enlightens--as you have depicted: As death whispered gently into my ear, a divine light appeared flashing in white-----

Ahhh the white light near death experience. While I'm not a believer in an afterlife, per say, I won't deny that people actually have such visions. What is at question is the source of them. Nice approach to the contest theme

Dear SO, Your words paint a vivid picture of the delicate balance between existence and mortality, the interplay of uncertainty and belief, and the miraculous influence of celestial intervention. A fleeting brush with mortality, a moment of awakening, where solace and renewal intertwine. The words you choose paint a picture of a realm beyond our reach, where light, gaze, grace, and touch intertwine. A shift profound, mindset transformed, Fears faded, faith found its place, Contrasting phrases speak of the change, In the speaker's mind, a new embrace. Furthermore, the vivid depiction of tears falling and being trapped in an eternal labyrinth evokes a profound sense of hopelessness and bewilderment.

I really like how you did this but I am confounded by the last part of Seekers line of inquiry that by fears he is seated. I just can't attempt this and mention having fears. It would be too glorious to have fears!

Gosh i cant imagine such a situation! What a powerful yet tender write this is, your words flow just seamlessly and is so well articulated with excellent rhymes and cadence, i know few that have had similar experiences where they felt like they met the highest or God, and felt like death visited them to only give them one more chance! I really felt a lot especially as i read the lines “ Teardrops bled to this soothing sacred gaze, as I prepared to be summoned back home.” Whoa! Its impressive how you’ve used slight alliterations and written in such a poetic while sticking to strict syllables and rhyme scheme, sonnet so well done! “ it's not your time, so alter your outlook."” spine tingling! Powerful! Impeccable write! Pleasure reading this! Best wishes for the contest
