Such a touching poem. For a while, after I lost my mom, I could smell her Channel on her sweater. She felt so nearby. There is nothing like a smell to evoke a memory. I'm sorry you had such a hard loss. I felt sad for you as I read your poem. It's so moving.

Marikate, thank you for sharing about your mom. I lost my mom in 2017. You are so right about the power of memory-evoking smells. Thank you for your visits today and all the kind words ~ John

yours remains one of my favorites in this contest. Congrats, John. I am so bummed that Brian had TWO contests I completely missed in ONE day!

I understand this so well. I have a sweater that was my fathers. I still wear it sometimes. He died in 2003 and this sweater brings him back to me...if only for awhile. You have said so much we so few words. Wonderful writing, John. ~ Elaine

What a treasure you describe, Elaine. I have an onyx ring from my dad and a jacket from my father-in-law. Both bring me sweet memories when I wear them. Thank you for your kind words Elaine ~ John

This is a clever Monoku for the contest how sad that person must feel, if it was real, but, I'm sure this happens to many that have lost a partner. Wonderful Monoku John, be well. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

Sometimes I don't want to wash the pillowcases when they smell of my hubby's cologne (Old Spice, btw) so this resonates with me - wishing you success in the contest!

Smell is perhaps the most powerful trigger of memories, to me at least. It's nice knowing you are in agreement. I hope you and hubby are doing well. Enjoy your weekend ~ John
