I Kept You Out, But You Kept Me In
I can never thank you enough
for not having given up on me;
even when I had given up
on myself, drowning in my own
burden of sin – I kept you out
but you kept me in.
Kept me a part of you,
showering me with compassion
and love; all the while never
making me feel lesser and you
so far above – when I thought
myself a loser, you thought me
a win – I kept you out
but you kept me in.
And then, I invited you in,
to find you already there;
the more I gave up on me
the more you showed me how
to care – how selfish I was,
now my only thought to share;
a new life ready to begin –
I kept you out
but you kept me in….
