I Can Do This

A hardy soul she had Or so she thought Empathy was hers But never this much Newborn’s first cry startled her Our child, the daddy said. Her thoughts ran up and down. Screaming their truth I have never done this before! She silently cried out. Before laughed. You are the mommy it reminded her. This neonate is in your care. God gave her to you. Be her mommy. You will know what to do. Daddy took the baby to her. Is it wet or hungry or what? He asked. They stared at their new work. I think I know what to do she said, wrapping her daughter tightly. The baby stopped crying, understanding she was in confident hands. I am the Mommy, the woman reminded herself. I can do this. Before wisely took a seat in the background, confident in the woman.

I was scared to death with our first child. But you learn as you go. The fact that any child survives childhood is an amazing thing. Wonderful poem. Have a great night my friend.
