How Much

The deep sighs come unbidden, without my knowing why. A love that is no longer, yet hurts too much to cry. Tears pooling in my heart to stay there until death. They overflow into my throat and I must catch my breath. How much does sorrow weigh? my scales do not say true. How long the yard-stick needed to measure color blue? Pain ever escalating shall be at ending never. The weight, the time, the measuring, the sighs go on forever.

Joyce, I would never have guessed you wrote this one because the style is different than your usual way of rhyming. It was a wonderful treat for me to see you were the author. What a poignant and well written poem. Congrats for your win.

Dear Joyce, I remember this one very well. It takes a long time to come to terms with loss. My favorite line is "How long the yard-stick needed to measure color blue?" Congratulations on your win! Be watching your mailbox in the coming week. Souvenirs on their way to you. Love, Carolyn

So sad, Joyce, although well written. No, the sighs cna't go on forever, my dear. Don't wallow in the past, the future has much to offer, you've got to keep looking forward. It is hard, I know, but you must. Thanks for sharing and thank you for your kind comments on mine. Best wishes, Caroline.

wow, a profound poem about mourning, Joyce. I am not sure the circumstance you are describing, but I hope it gets less painful in time. Great lines in this poem. oh, about 9/11, I can't figure out how to see last year's contests. What is the exact title of your winning poem and on what page of your poetry? Luv, Andrea

Glad that you wrote about it, Joyce, if it is real and not a topic...I truly believe that writing it down helps to deal with the emotions that are bottled up or flowing. Keep the creative pen flowing. Sara

Sorrow weighs a ton, Joyce. It can drag you down to the bottom and that's NOT where you belong. Hope you feel better soon. Love, Carolyn
