Home Sweet Home
Home sweet home
Hello. Please allow me to introduce you to my humble abode
Off the beaten path, down a paved road, and across a dirt roadway
Mother was the undisputed family superstar, loving all 12 of us equally
Enemies number one and two to this lowly community were ignorance and poverty
Sunny muggy days were plenty, and they often took a portion of sweetness right off our table
Whether we had good times or bad, sad or glad, there was no defeat to this great family
Every day the sun came up in the East and set in the Western sky, we were thankful
Earnings brought meager gains; labor produced pains; but the determination remained
Teachers felt obligated to destroy ignorance, and were devoted to reading, writing, and arithmetic
Happiness wasn’t something I craved for, from somewhere out there; it was at home within me
On those rainy days of Summer which seldom came, we played ball, Jump Rope, and Hide &Seek
Mary, mama’s friend, had the first television in our community; we watched Tarzan and Superman
Every Monday night when we were little, daddy took us to town where we watched the big screen
