Hero

The Lone Ranger came to visit me last night. He was perfect, his shiny six-guns hanging on his hip, and the mask (to protect his real identity!) "Howdy!" I said; "Hiya, pardner!" he replied, and I motioned for him to take a seat. "No thanks," he groaned, "I think I'll stand, been in the saddle now for going on three days!" There were so many questions on my mind. How come he always got the bad guy, and rode off into the sunset with a flourish and a smile, and how come you never saw the blood? Things were less complicated then, he mused, not like now where everything's so realistic, so there's nothing left for people to imagine; then he disappeared without a trace... He's still my hero. These days everyone's part good part bad, so that the line is hard to find. It was easier when men wore white and rode high up in the saddle. The good guy always grabbed the glory, then disappeared in a cloud of dust with a hearty "Hi ho Silver, away!!"

Very neatly executed, Keith. This narrative/poem brought back so many feelings and memories that made me feel so explorative and wide-eyed as a child. Nicely written and oh so, enjoyable to read and remember. Peace always, John

Keith, this write brought back some very fond memories for me. My siblings and I would sit in the parlor and watch the Lone Ranger get the bad guys... no one would hear a peep out of us until it was over. Thank you for sharing such a facinating read God's Love and Many Blessings, Always, Adell

Good day to you, Keith! A fun poem to read. Those heros didn't need the graphic detailing that comes with the here and now. Perhaps "Things were less complicated then", or we just need to exercise our imaginations more now? Nicely done! Wishing you and yours the best..God bless! Love, Mikki

I love this write, Keith. I could not agree more, defining lines can be so hard to find and there is a lot to be said for leaving some things to the imagination. I think that is, in part, the beauty of poetry. Everyone percieves it differently and our imaginations are free to run with the images it creates(I think I said that right! lol). Awesome write. I always admired this hero but not as much as I admire your talent and your thought provoking writes. Love the touch of humor, too! Love, Robin

I hear this a lot nowadays. The hero and the villain become intertwined and all you get is something that reminds you too much of your own world to be entertaining. But then it's your questions that get to me. Why wasn't there any blood in those 80s westerns? why does the hero always 'defeat evil', whatever that means. To me the answer is people needed the good guy to be all good and the bad guy to be all bad. maybe the best hero transcends both good and bad and just does what needs to be done.

Oh man this makes me feel old! But it sure brings back great memories! So, did he visit you in a dream? Or was your mind and imagination wandering? Just curious. I love the line 'These days everyone's part good part bad". It's true to life. Different and fun write! Love, Shar

The Lone Ranger! One of my favorite shows growing up. :) Such a wonderful write that took me back and replayed scenes of the good cowboy with a faithful horse and an Indian friend. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Alana
