HARVEST MOON

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ cold silver disc above stripped maple limbs— night’s sharp exhale. foxes trace frost through brittle husks of corn. field mice freeze. your light bleaches every hollow, spills across stone. no warmth left here, just the owl’s call and wind’s teeth. harvest done. earth sleeps hard beneath you.
Dearest Sara, I think I need a warm blanket to cover my soft skin, because a slight chill has entered the room. Your thoughts capture the essence of the season. You paint such vivid images, my sweet friend. Congratulations on Poem of the Day. : ) Hugs and blessings, Brandy
Sara, your imagery, especially “night’s sharp exhale” and “wind’s teeth”, is precise and chilling. The closing lines, “harvest done / earth sleeps hard / beneath you”, feel like a benediction and a reckoning. You’ve captured that eerie stillness after the harvest. Your piece is certainly worthy of POTD. Congrats, my poet friend.
