Written: March 2024 for Guess Who Contest by: Margarita Lillico __________________________________________ Among the African plains, a man stood tall. His spirit was unwavering—his bravery never fall.  He was a strong advocate for justice and rights. The impact he left still brightens the night. A spirit shone brightly in a world rife with strife, He proved the power of love and the strength of life. With every breath, with each stride. He taught us truths and encouraged pride. A monument to his life—his words guide To fight for what's right and never hide. His legacy remains in every soul. His soul lights the fuse, fixing broken whole. His legacy lives on in young and elderly hearts. His influence will endure via the tales in all parts So, let's follow his lead and walk in his path. We can all benefit from his historic wrath. Hold onto his words and never forget. Let's carry his torch and beam his target. We are inspired by his lasting impact and life. From custody to the presidency, his path strife.

Hi Lasaad, A splendid poem for one of my heroes, i definitely had to fav this poem. Nelson Mandela, MADIBA as he was lovingly named, means an older person but, in the case of President Mandela, Madiba was a term of respect meaning Father of the South African Nation. A breathtaking poem, for a man who was respected and loved by every color, creed and nation worldwide. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Lovely piece sotto, it was a good downplay and engaging read. I was going to say, I couldn't guess right until the last lines. He was such a great leader and we are proud.

What a splendid poem on Nelson Mandela. I was wondering if it was Martin Luther King Jr or Nelson Mandela. But the last line proclaims without doubt who that man raised from custody to Presidency is. Such beacons of light are rare in the world. A beautiful tribute to the one who dedicated himself for the uplift of the African people. Well done my friend. All the Best!

Ah dr sotto, what a brilliant write this is, so concise and so well woven with excellent rhymes as always. I love the flow of this and how youv described this personality, as i read this i thought of nelson mandela, and i think the rest too thinks the same from comments. I love so many lines in this but also the inspiring and uplifting aspect of your words woven in such eloquence. Especially loved the lines “ Hold onto his words and never forget. Let's carry his torch and beam his target.” BOL

Nelson Mandela? Your words about him truly express his magnificence as a person and as a leader. His life was symbolic of how we each can strive to be an integrous, kind, and honorable person despite unfathomable circumstances. As you said, "He taught us truths and encouraged pride." When I think of Mandela I am reminded of that song "The Impossible Dream," even though Mandela wasn't quixotic. This poem is a great contest entry! Have a splendid day, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara

No idea who you are talking about? Maybe Abe Lincoln? Also Martin Luther King Jr? I've a few other guesses on who but they fall into the category of crazy so I will stick with those. Good luck in this contest.
