Grandpa
Pink patterned rain boots hit the pavement
not in step physically but mentally, mentally we were always doin' alright
Hand in hand, we're not the most symmetrical looking but that never stopped us
Chit chat about the essentials in life, the basics according to a 4 year old at least
Yup, my Mommy bought me a brand new purple dress
Gaping, I looked up for his reaction
Like the hips of a salsa dancer responding to the beat of the music,it came
instantly, A chuckle burst forth like that of the rabbi when he cracked a not so
hilarious joke, I smile, he smiles,
Destimation spotted I sprint ahead, I know where to go
Third aisle third row last item
What should've been a 2 minute trip somehow turns into a 20 minute one
I like to talk
Rabidly I rush inside and drop my coat where it doesn't belong,
My coat and the carpet had become good friends, I believe they enjoyed their time
together
A phone book is my throne at the head of the kitchen table as I whip out my tools,
my teacher sits down beside me. He picks out his favorite and we begin..
"stay in the lines ..just remember..stay in the lines"
We sit there for a while, minutes turn to hours and we are finally finished
He tears it out and tapes it on the wall, next to the television
Glancing at me, he nods approvingly
I nod back equally as approved of his skill
We continue watching tv and glance at our masterpiece now and again
But now, Now I stare, remembering the proud look of achievement, of honor
that I received from my grandpa so long ago
Now I always nod proudly, now I always remember that there is something to be
proud of, Now I am am never, never ashamed
