One of Malta's major tourist attractions, the Azure Window in Gozo, collapsed during a storm on 8th March 2017. The Azure Window featured in a number of films, including Clash of the Titans (1981), The Count of Monte Cristo (2002), The Odyssey  (2002), and in the tv series Games of Thrones.

With pride we spoke of our azure window but all along nature knew that it was hers. - - - - - - - - - - - - © 8th March 2017

Alluring verse, Paul of a beloved natural beauty that's now been reclaimed by Nature.. I'm truly sorry for the loss of your scenic icon. Beautifully expressed verse, heartfelt and poignant.. Warmest wishes my friend ~Susan

Thank you, Susan, and excuse the late reply. Apart from computer problems I have been very busy trying to finish proof reading a poetry book which was scheduled for March but which has now been moved forward to end of January! Re the poem...the Azure Window was a popular tourist and local attraction. One minute it was there, the next the sea took it away! ~ Warm regards // paul

Nature is benevolent, and gifted her treasure to proud mankind. You prove it through your poetry, Paul.

Hello Paul. First how fine your words. Second how true your words. All belongs to nature. Your attached image of the window so fits your words perfectly. Well done

Such beauties of nature are always sad to lose, and you have said it so well here Paul. All things change and we must appreciate what we have while we have it! Happy March:)

So true Chris! We owe a lot to nature, although like you said in your last poem, many people are often unaware of the beauty that lies around them...they're too busy texting/chatting/etc on their mobile phones!! So pleased to have you stopping by:) A happy March to you, too! Regards // paul

What mother nature creates, she also takes away..sad. Your words are so befitting and lovely, it is nice to know the beauty was captured on film, to be admired and never forgotten. Excellent writing, a pleasure to read :-) many blessings to you Paul :-) lynn

Gorgeous, it reminds me of a formation on the west cost of Mexico. It provides a window to the Sea of Cortes. Your poem is a perfect paring Paul.

Thank you, Richard. There are many similar sights all over the world. The one in Gozo has now left a void in a scenic complex. Perhaps if you find time you might be tempted to search Dwejra Gozo, Malta where the inland sea and fungus rock are also of interest. // paul

I was sorry to read this on FB, Paul. So sad...I saw this on my trip to Gozo. Even if nature has her way, nothing can detract from the beauty of Malta....Hugs

Thank you for sympathizing with us, Deb! In the case of "The Count Of Monte Cristo" Malta and Gozo were chosen primarily for their architectural heritage. Malta still retains a very unique look with all the old stone forts, while some naturally beautiful spots in Gozo were more than ideal. Hugs // paul

Oh Paul ..My heart is still saddened by such event..What a tragedy...On the otherhand..It makes me realize.that not even those strong rocks lasted forever..They crumbled to nothingness..and so will I..Thanks for sharing this..Im sure I had a photo taken there many years ago..I need to go find it .

It is a sad loss, Charm, but I had a gut feeling that it would not last long. A Gozitan friend of mine had told me how fragile the base of the supporting pillar had become, while the flat top part had been crumbling at a fast rate. Yes, we're all searching for our old photos now:)) Regards // paul

I would go a step further and say that all things are lent to us; it's our duty to look after them, and to make good use of them. What we destroy, especially for greed/money, is irreplaceable.

So is the world, Paul. How can this be a sad thing? Yet it is. It had really changed over the years...

The supporting columns had been getting thinner... I'd also seen pictures of substantial cracks on the top surface of the arch, with people walking across it....Yikes!

Many of us grew up with the image of that natural arch, Doug, so it's understandable that we miss it. I had seen this coming...paul

Oh Paul this is so sad we have pictures from when we visited a couple of years ago ... but we cannot do anything to prevent the power of the sea and sadly this window is now broken:-( hugs Jan xx

Hi Jan...I thought about you when this happened and wondered whether you had visited Dwejra in Gozo. I'm glad you saw it before it disappeared for good. Hugs // paul

That is so sad a treasure such as this is washed away. It makes us realize how fragile this world is.
