From a news story

FURY OF THE FIRESTORM

as car handles melt and the fury of the firestorm
surrounds this frightened nurse
who thinks she’s dead
her husband metes out an order — “RUN!”
does he think of neatly lined streets of
parallel fire lines, cheering you on
but truth is much hotter
the earth is on fire
she runs as her shoes melt
climbs into a friend’s car
a butt sits and vinyl burns
the two pray and as smoke grabs
this car too she remembers her husband’s words
“RUN!”
she leaves this car too until she finds a fire truck
they take her in and cover her with a fire blanket
still she overhears no help is coming
but then it does
and the way is made clear for a turnaround
which brings a hero back to her hospital
selflessly she cares for others

Lovely verse Kim, there are indeed some wonderful people on this earth. So heartbraking watching it on the news. RIP for those tragic souls who lost their lives. Tom.

I do not have to read the story now, as thanks to you, Kim, I have read something far better - the poem in honor of the faithful nurse.

Thank you, dear Caren! Disasters bring out the good and bad...she is one of the good ones!

I think I may have heard this story on the news, very graphically well-told!

It touched my heart! When I was stuck in “snowmeggedon” a few years back felt panicked but never thought I was going to die. Those fires are frightening! Love how she listened to her husband and prayed.
