Forsooth

What happened to the word “forsooth?” Modern poets rarely use it, unlike the Bard And I miss it, if you want to know the truth Finding a better word to replace it can be hard Like that archaic phrase “long in the tooth.” I suspect most of us don’t know what it means It was generally followed by an exclamation point Except when uttered from the silver screen I have never heard it spoken in a local beer joint Forsooth! The thought causes an ache in my spleen.

Indeed, my friend, forsooth is hard to replace without using slang. I like your thinking. Bill

(chuckling) I enjoyed your comment, Bill. Now, I'm trying to think of a slang replacement.

Been a long time since I've seen alas and alack, too!

Reading this I'm taking a stab in the dark, but I think I recall the character Snaggletooth from some older cartoon using the word forsooth. Regardless a fun write and interesting where the mind of the Poet can go.

It is, indeed, Kenneth. I had no idea a synonym for forsooth was indeed until Tom enlightened me.

I love this word "forsooth" I think Shakespeare was the last person who used it.

Perhaps. I like the sound of it better than "indeed," but I doubt that I'll be able to revive it.

Lol sounds a bit ancient but each to his own, I prefer indeed. Tom

That will work, too. I wonder when forsooth went out of style?
