For Haiti (Beatlemania)

For John Heck's Beatlemania competition. To the tune of "For No One" from the Revolver album. The day fades, the earth shakes The Haitians find their homes no longer stand as families fear their future They struggle through rubble To find survivors, loved ones who've succumbed quietly to nature's violence And in their eyes we see despair No spark of hope behind the tears shed for victims So many lives lost in tremors They want help, they need ours And so we dig through empty pockets struggling to find scant resources And in our eyes they see empathy In tears we promise to do what little we can offer To ease a pain that knows no end We stay home, we watch them The TV shows such agony that all are moved to send their prayers and sympathy A day breaks, our hearts ache Such turmoil spills upon the screen and we reach out to help our Haitian brothers And in God's eyes they are children As are we all now joined in hearts and in sadness Rebuild this nation with His help

Carolyn, Your poem contains all the warm compassion that most of us feel and is written beautifully. I can easily see why it was a winner. My daughter is an army nurse and she wanted to go help, but was not able to. Blessings, Connie

To ease the pain that knows no end ... is a powerful truism. It seems applicable to all our mortal life ... and through it we are linked by a common humanity to the Haitian suffering. Good write and all the best.

Such a meaningful, and caring twist to the contest, Carolyn. We need many many reminders of the struggles ahead for the Haitians....the more we write in their behalf, the more help we might stir in people's hearts everywhere. Congratulations on the win in the contest! ~ love, Carrie

Very expressive, Carolyn! The pictures on TV are sad and it is a good feeling that the people of Haiti receive help from so many. The saddest are the children who lost their families. To answer Frank's P.S.: Many problems in Africa lead back to the times of colonialism when countries and people were torn apart. It is a shame that slavery there still exists in our times....Love, Gert

We have a chance to show we are not the greed and power hungry nation that others portray us as and a chance to help our fellow human beings. While the liberals are removing the most powerful tool we have, prayer. Vince

I'm not familiar with the song, Carolyn but your words really moved me--I couldn't help but feel the compassion in your poem and hopefully we all can do our own little share, as you said--everyone contributing even a little bit would amount to something huge--God bless you for this inspiring tribute...
