Flowers of Tuscany-Fiori Della Toscana

Sunflowers turn slowly to follow the sun. They bow their heavy heads when afternoon’s done. What a golden vision they share row after row With deep amber faces, their tiny seeds all aglow. The summer breezes blowing o’er the fields with warm air Shares pride in a country with its beauty so fair. I smile in contentment as I l leave old Italy With a sea of them waving good-bye to me. Note: This translation is as close to my original poem as possible. Lovely poem. Wish I spoke Italian (could get a sense of words that resemble french or Spanish). Loved Italy--was visiting there when 9-11 happened, which sort of soured the memories. Thanks for commenting on my piece.

Thank you Mark. I have visited Italy four times and this was my last memory of Italy as I was driven to the airport to depart for home. Aloha, Connie

Thank you Robert. I had an accident yesterday and fell and broke four bones in my foot. At least I will be able to read more poetry though having a cast on my foot for six weeks doesn't thrill me. Aloha, Connie

Lovely poem, Connie. Sunflowers (girasole) are planted all over Tuscany for the oil, but create a beautiful sight for the eyes as well. I lived in Italy for 7 years and we have a home there, as well. Cheers, Roy

Such a charming image! Though I traveled by train through Italy I don't have any memories of the countryside so odd? [and how smart are you! Italian!] Light & Love

Italy, a land so grand in sunlight's hand. Thank you for reminding me that Italy's Empire survives foremost in the soil of rising Suns Connie. I love how you express your romance with Italy with flowers so kind and strong, bright and long. It would a treat if you'd descibe Pompeii or Hercullium w (ms.) with your sensitive poetic touch. This is the flower that nature should have depicted with a face on it, showing different expressions. The height they grow to is amazing. Fine tribute as to what I call the 'Sunshine' flower. Lovely to read Connie, James :)

Beautiful Connie, I spent 24 days in Italy a few years ago. This brings back pleasant memories of the Tuscany region. My personal favorite was the Amalfi Coast.

oh my, I just adore that final verse. how they waved goodbye to you. So poetic, Connie!! I remember seeing the sunflowers of Israel. Probably the only really bright spot in that whole country. this is a precious little poem. Did someone translate it for you or did you use one of those INternet translators? Oh, and did you know that sunflower was my flower when I took a test on FB? I got Rose and sunflower in two different tests. I bet you are a sunflower too.(how is your dear hubbie?)
