Your body cries out like a helpless newborn baby … Feed me …feed me You try to fight, to resist the craving But you cannot control this demon inside Knowing that just one fix will bring you relief Wrapping a tourniquet around your arm like a comfort blanket You inject the drug into your arm Your veins reach out drinking in the opiate It takes effect and you feel euphoric One final fatal fix … and you sleep like a baby But this time… It will be forever Contest Images that make you think. I had read this earlier and thought I commented. I guess I'm getting old. Congratulations on your win in the contest Jan. I actually thought most people would write about this photo. Drug addiction is such a waste. You are correct when you sayone cannot control the demon. Peace sweet lady:)

Thanks Daniel - any type of addiction is bad - apart from an addiction to writing poetry - I am happy I suffer from that now:-) hugs jan xx

An excellent take on this picture, Jan. No laughing matter, this time, but a serious poem on an equally serious subject. It sure makes the reader stop and think. hugs // paul

Thanks Jo I use the contests as a way of stretching my ability - a win is great as it gets more exposure to your poem but as long as the poem gets read in the first place, that is the most important thing to me :-) hugs Jan xx

Brilliant capture on what is a very disturbing picture (when I saw Silent's contest I actually cringed when I looked at this one ... gave me goosebumps). I think it's mix of turning something innocent (babies) and something dark (drugs) and blurring the lines that makes its an unsettling picture. I hope this does well, Jan, but in either case, you should be proud of this one. Not a pretty thing to see someone in this dreadful state!

I found the image disturbing too Timothy but my muse went into overdrive - with the dummy I thought of a baby and 'feeding' the addiction - am pleased with this dark write - I want people to see I am able to write on subjects other than poop lol:-) hugs Jan xx

This is extremely powerful, Jan. You certainly clenched the start reality prompted in the picture. Best wishes for the contest. Hugs, Sandra

Powerful write, Jan. It's so devastating to see how people are completely helpless in this state of addiction. The emotions are well captured here, a 7. Good luck in the contest, as well!
