Excellence In God's Eyes (Written For John Heck's Encore Contest)
Excellence in God’s Eyes
Words of wisdom haunt wayward souls.
And rationalization carries one into the pit.
But understanding elevates the heart.
And brings a man to his eternal joy.
A man who perceives another man’s needs,
Whether physical, emotional, or spiritual,
And shows forth an overflowing compassion,
Pleases his own spirit and uplifts one more man.
As acts of sincere kindnesses increase in the world,
Love will perpetuate righteousness among mankind.
Each self-less act that comes to pass,
Freely, naturally, willingly, and with care,
Uplifts two souls and brings forth love.
It matters not whether rich or poor in matters of material concern.
It matters not whether educated or unschooled in matters of the world.
It matters not whether a man’s profession is esteemed or unimpressive.
It matters not whether pleasing to look upon or comely according to other men.
It matters not whether blessed with brilliance or dull intelligence.
Each individual upon the earth has but one real purpose.
And that is to work out his salvation with Heavenly Father.
Seeking praise from other men can waylay spiritual development.
Seeking money and material goods, above God, ensnares a man’s essence.
Seeking knowledge, while denying God’s hand in all things, destroys wisdom.
Inspired by John Heck's Encore Contest
It distracts a man’s sacred progression toward purity.
Acts of righteous kindness and undiluted love enrich a man’s core.
Following the path toward perfecting one’s soul has many rewards.
And when goodness becomes embedded in a man’s being,
He achieves excellence in God’s eyes.
