Evil Thoughts In the Night

When evil thoughts come in the night Initially there’s quite a fright Some things about them are not right Even though it’s just a bad dream It is an illusion it seems Trying to take me to extremes I know a way to take control For evil thoughts will take their toll I need to listen to my soul I’ll focus my mind on God’s Love While channeling peace from above I’ll fly away just like a dove The evil thoughts won’t win the hour Its courage will turn and cower In the presence of Love’s power Now that victory is assured Because throughout my faith endured My peaceful sleep again secured

Hmmm, I don't think I ever have evil thoughts. I only dream things that are perhaps people doing evil things, like in tv shows I watch. For me, it's more about "not doing enough good things" I just live my simple life, hoping that will be enough for me in the end!! What are these evil thoughts people get??

Evil thoughts to me, in a dream, are thoughts about doing something that I know isn't right. Like think about hurting someone because they are hurting their wife, are taking advantage of a salesperson because I know they need a sale. ( like a car salesman ). Taking advantage of a person when they were hurt and vulnerable. Those kind of thoughts are evil to me. I don't want to think thoughts that are not loving and thoughtful of others and myself. Hope this helped, it's not what most think.

Hello again, Bill. As usual, this poem hits another high mark, philosophically speaking. Your writings always speak to deeper truths and that's why I always enjoy coming back for more. Keep 'em coming. Terry

Thank you, Terry, for reading and commenting on my poetry. I just write about the things that I read and think about. I seem to have a need to write about some things at certain times, and try to follow to voice within. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Bill, Sometimes when we're trying to catch some shut-eye, evil emotions or bad dreams wake us up. But if we keep our attention on the love that God has for us, we would be able to transform our anxiety into a feeling of serenity.

Thanks for understanding my poem, Lasaad. Medicine brings on bad dreams sometimes, but most of what I call bad dreams are just symbolically trying to help me see the solutions to what's troubling me. :-) Thanks for commenting my friend. Bill

Nightmares and bad dreams are pretty scary - if i have one that woke me up during the night or I remember it in the morning have a short Greek saying, mostly prayer that i say silently to myself. Nice one Bill, well penned, hugs and blessings my friend, Jennifer.

Hello friend, Bill. Learning how to live with demons is a learning process. There are many ways. Gratefulness for the good and the evil, we learn from is.best. Knowing God is in charge, no matter what ….is the best solution. Thumbs up on this poem. Panagiota xxx

Occasionally our sleep gets broken by wicked thoughts or nightmares !But by focussing on God's love, we will be able to divert our fright into a state of calm and our sleep will be restored. A fine poem, dear friend !

Dreams are funny things. Often they don't mean anything, but you seem to be describing a distraction in the open of your poem, and a realization and last a turn to God for the answer. One night after a devotion I went to bed in tears. I had a "dream" of crawling in a race, but an angel picked me up, and another held my hand and ran with me. It was my assurance that God was taking my effort of a crawl and turning me into the "racer" He wants me to be. It was an "inner calm" to turmoil.

I’d say, allow the thoughts that appear to play out, as we nonchalantly watch. There is no shame in viewing demons of our past or energies we attract. Assigning no ownership to them, they remain unfed and so recede. However, if we repress or sublimate them, they are likely to resurface again. Great musings here, Bill, enjoyed this line of contemplation

Outstanding poem, Bill. You nailed this one with your insightful words about banishing those evil thoughts that seep through our subconscious while we're asleep. They are frightening, but focusing on that which is bigger than us does send those thoughts and fears packing. Thanks for your words, dearest Bill.
