Erasing Every Trace - Corrected Repost

This is what should have posted last night. Thank you for your understanding Erasing every trace “Star light, star bright, The first star I see tonight; I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight” The winter wind is cold as I stand in the yard staring up at a the first star of the evening, one we shared often Gazing upon its light, wishing, certain it shimmers for some, those holding hands and dreaming of a future as bright as these icicle glistened heavens Now though dimming, fading with the universe where possibilities once thrived as if life were real and not some fabled archer When then the ground crumbles, giving way beneath my feet, frozen earth opens up, swallowing me into a deep abyss And as the surface falls, caving in, creating a darkness like I have never known before I whisper, “thank you” For soon spring will come, and new grass will grow over the disturbed land, erasing every trace, that I ever was And I will know beyond a shadow’s doubt That my wish upon that first star tonight was granted… Good night Soupers Note: The opening stanza is from the 19th-century English poem by Jane Taylor, "The Star".

The whole thing made me smile :) I once accidentally posted a poem of Poe as my own. I only wanted to save it as a draft on my blog, to work out a poem using that quote, but accidentally hit 'publish'. So I fully understand how you feel.

That aside, it is a beautiful poem, Chris. I so often write about an abyss, and it also often ends dark. I know you like happier endings, we differ I guess. But I also come here to your poems so often when I am low, to feel better again :) And somehow I always do.

Wow! This is sooo sad in it's imagery! So the wish was to die because of lost love, but at least with death life for others starts anew? Was that right?

Hi Chris, You've penned a well written piece. I found it to be sad. I could sense a someone deeply in love that longs to be reunioned with their lover. Is that the wish? I could be way off but that's my take on this exceptional write. A without a doubt seven:-) Alexis
