Notes About The Poem

“Some loves end at the beginning
undone by the truth that
who we are makes us impossible,
difference becomes the gravity that
keeps certain wings from ever rising
and the failure to begin is its own terrible fidelity.”

Hi Daniel, there's a lot to see in the insect world. I think this is a scenic insect love story!

This story of the Anthropoids sounds like a futile attempt on the part of a Hine's Emerald dragonfly to enter into a courtship with a Rock thread tail damselfly. This may be because both are stationed at different territories and do not share any commonalities. Beautiful image and beautiful poem. Your observation of nature is remarkable. Dear Daniel, Congratulations on your well deserved POTD

A beautifully restrained free-verse encounter: the divided habitats and precise scientific detail make the attraction feel both vivid and impossible. The sharp movement of his flight against her stillness—especially “eyes—black”—gives the ending a quiet, devastating gravity. I guess even the insect world can be entranced by impossible love. In nature many flowers attract unsuspecting insects with scents and mimicking to enable pollination. The image is dramatic. Congratulations on POTD

Exquisite detail in how you’ve let insectoids speak the truth conveyed in your poignant quote, Daniel. “...who we are makes us impossible...” : it is Divine that claims some, the difference can keep wings from rising OR it can make the Beings soar. Though the quote carries a shred of intense truth it ends on a humanly sad note. My own view is that four wings can merge beyond the mountain mist beads should gnats be forgone in favour of touching pure quartz in the thorax ~ he has to though transcend her black eyes & raised wings : not so easy. Salute to Dragonfly & Damselfly for their message which your inner eye so beautifully captured. I’m faving this for surgeon quality insight. ✨
