Notes About The Poem

"Poetry is not what's in front of you, it's what's inside of you"

Each Passing Cloud

Inside of me, there is another me
Observing, as I act upon life's stage
My mind is where he hangs his open cage
To him that is the same as being free

I keep him in touch with reality
At times he claims to be some sort of sage
At other times he doesn't act his age
What's best, is that we never disagree

But he is really not like me at all
He's innocent with curiosity
Where he is quiet, I am always loud
To him the moon's a flying orange ball
He does not see the ugliness I see
He flies above it, on each passing cloud.

Ah Daniel, I think you express the symbiotic nature we all must have with our inner selves, one the expressive child, another the jaded adult. Naiveté versus hard core. I love this! Linda

Thank you, Linda. i would bet my broken down pickup that most creative people are aware of the inner entity. I am glad you can relate. I appreciate all you do. Have a super evening:)

Thank you, Paula. I appreciate your time and support. My soul? My soul is well aware of the ugliness I see. Perhaps a dream from my soul?

You really thought this one through and achieved something special that so many should admire and relate to. I often think of poetry as something that highlights our wish for a better world and encourages us to reach out to each other in the hope of finding others who have that same wish and hopefully, one day! Best regards David in NZ

Hi Daniel, Enjoyed getting into the substance of this poem, some great lines acting like signposts to the revelation of the "observer" within. Unfortunately we spend so much of our time "out there" when we are carrying around our home " within". Pass on my thanks to that wise one you are carrying around inside. Regards Paul

"Inside of me, there is another me".... A statement so poetic, so philosophical and so close to truth. This ambivalence is there in most of us. Beatifully written, Daniel.

Daniel, you have a very special gift, to catch the beauty of a present moment, and inflate it into an emotional and poignant theme we all can relate to! First time I read, second time I savour.

Hello Daniel. I am in awe. For those who write within the sonnet family I bow and admire the skill. And yes, your skill shines here within all this beauty. I also agree that poetry is inside of us. Thus is why I never edit or change from my original thought and words because the moment along with the words and feeling are all lost within editing. This is just my opinion of course. Thank you for sharing your skilled talent. Blessings always to you and your poetry that is before us here.

I'm starting to think you and I might be brothers from a different mother :) this quite honestly is the most fascinating piece I've read in a long time written by someone who views himself very similar to how I do myself. I am honored to call you a friend on here! I am quite certain we would be friends in person. Beautifully written! Lasting regard for you sir. A.S.

Cool write! I wish people tried more to re-align with the innocent-eyed dreamer within. The lines "My mind is where he hangs his open cage / To him that is the same as being free" really struck me.
