How heavenly these memories I’ve stored with you. Warm August days, strolling on piers that gently rock and sway. Worries ignored; right now, our bag of gold. On hold, the tears. Deposits in my mental bank – warm nights watching the dark’ning eastern sky together… then magic! Full moon rises in our sights; it surfs the bay (except in cloudy weather). Investments paying dividends; as now we watch the news update today’s death toll. Businesses closed, new wrinkles on my brow, compounding bad news borrows from your soul. Remind me to recall when life was good - help me withdraw fond memories as I should.

I love your investing metaphors married to a romantic walk reminding us to think positively - "withdraw fond memories," "investments paying dividends," "compounding bad news." This sonnet is wonderfully, creatively crafted. Congratulations on your winning placement, my friend! Sending you dividends of blessing for the ninth!

Sam, enjoyed your excellent 'audit' of the banking metaphors. Your careful reads and thoughtful comments are a huge source of joy and inspiration to me (as are your baseball fungoes). Blessings ~ John

I've always admired your sonnets my friend. They paint a beautiful picture of emotions and memories wandering with tender touch of gems you've placed in your verse. Love the gorgeous details that signify those emotions. Keep inspiring! :)

We should all build up memories with our someone special to take our of the 'vault' when good times become scarce - lovely message, like the detail of 'walking on piers that gently rock and sway' - and how the full moon surfs the bay - once again you have penned a beauty!

My heart swells with joy as I read your comments and how you weave into them the gist of the poem and add your own flavorings to the soup. This is another example of your careful eye and generous pen. Or keyboard. Thank you, friend.

Many thanks, my friend. My wife and I are big lovers of full moon rises. It makes me smile just to write about it.

they are exaggerating numbers, John and they should be held crinimally accountable for the way they put Covid patients into nursing homes to increase the numbers a few months back (it's on the video I just posted at FB). When I think of July 4th coming and what they brought on this world, it makes me want to cry. As does the content of this poem, the helplessness we have been left with thanks to those who turned our world upside down. (stop watching the news' propoganda. Please!)

Thank you, Andrea. The truth will someday all come out. My only goal here was to represent the melancholy days we are in, and how the soul desires to rekindle pleasant memories.
