Desolate Land

The blistering sun seers the sand. Time will create a desolate land.

Hi Bill. Seventeen syllables of great euphony with a great message to boot. I'm not sure where we humans are racing to but we certainly need to slow down and take a good look at what we are doing to Mother Earth. Cheers - Gary

These days, the sun is growing more fierce and global warming is felt everywhere more than ever ! A fecund land can be turned into a desert in no time. Unfortunately, it is all of our doing. Great couplets!

Thanks for the comments, Valsa. Humans are an enemy of nature many times, mostly out of ignorance. Your comments are encouraging to my poetry efforts. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

We were reading about the Dust Bowl years, and watched The Grapes of Wrath a few weeks ago. It is horrifying to know that if a lot of work and change had not taken place to reclaim the land of that time, we'd already have created a vast desert out of the once lush rolling meadows, and it would have spread like a cancer as it was doing. It's scary to know how choices made especially in the last 100 years or so has truly wreaked such havoc on our beautiful earth :/

I agee, BJ, we humans have not been good caretakers. Our world was meant to be beautiful and productive. Shame on the human race. Thanks for the visit and comment, my friend. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

Bill, you are quite right and quite the philosopher - very clever two lines. I listened to a documentary last night which said that humanity might become extinct, climate change causing tsunamis, earthquakes, icebcaps which threaten and cause the sea levels to rise and are melting whilst we speak, pandemics still to come, increasing poverty, war, foods, mudslides, raging fires, i can't think of anything else.. A Prediction that could one day come true. Blessings galore. Jennifer .

The passage of time goes beyond the words you penned, Bill. It is indeed a profound reflection on the consequences you eloquently described.

A short way of saying, "If it stays hot enough, long enough; a desert is created." Desolate is what many humans see, but beauty is also present. Thanks for the comments and visit, my friend. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

I immediately think of 'The Martian Chronicles,' by Ray Bradbury (c. 1951 collection of vignettes, sci-fi, about trips to the Red Planet). Eerie, haunting, and ominous portents for the future of whatever road we've veered off onto. :) gw
