I have submitted this blank verse entry in the hope that a form that does not use a rhyme scheme but is written in iambic pentameter will receive equal consideration.
Death Take Thy Dagger**
Death - take thy dagger from my bloodless heart**
love has spent its flow upon the fallow
poured pure passion upon its stony need
impaled itself upon a shaft of lies.
Be merciful, oh darkness, comfort me
with whispers as the silent beats subside,
console my limbs with touching’s memory
wet, once again, my sad, embittered lips.
Dark friend erase the light of deep’ning pall
release my vacant heart from torture’s grip
quiet the urge of one last hopeful beat
lay me, vanquished, at love’s bloodstained altar,
freed from oblivion’s timeless torment
the agony of eternity’s dreams.
Sweet angel draped in black of devil’s robe
Death - take thy dagger from my bloodless heart.**
