Poem of the day on December 18, 2023

Placed 6th: Premium contest 1265 by Brian Strand
Form: Quatern; Eight syllables per line

Oh, how I long, day full of snow When dawns in gelid breezes moan And nights anguish in frozen glow, Now that autumn has left its throne. As dull and decay shroud meadow, Oh, how I long, day full of snow, To soothe malaise of dreary woe Where blizzards frosty harshly blow. On barren landscapes caught in throe Trapped in demise of autumn's reign, Oh, how I long, day full of snow Gleaming hopes of dimming terrain. When storms from north exact a toll Where rivers freeze, struggle to flow, And lifeless shivers gloomy knoll; Oh, how I long, day full of snow.

Hello Vijay, funny that I should come across your poem today. I live in the northeast and we had our first big snow storm today. A bittersweet experience, a snow storm from fat, soft, slow flakes. Everything seems so beautiful at first as It covers "the dead and decay" Lasting too long, it might melt away. I loved your 2nd stanza the best. Such a timely poem for me today. It's imagery is lovely. I'm delighted to have found!

I can understand this well Vijay. As a child I wondered what snow was like. Raised in Florida I had never seen snow. Now I live in Alberta and love it here. I love the snow and if we don't get enough snow in winter we suffer on the plains in summer for lack of water. A fine write my friend. God Bless, JB

I do so agree my friend. I do love a white Christmas and snow is a real blessing. It is beautiful to see and without enough snow in winter the following summer is dry and things die for lack of enough water. Lovely piece here. As usual. God Bless and Merry Christmas, JB

Hi Vijay - I long for a wintry snowy day, as much as do my friend, but then I think of the harshness of people who constantly live in such conditions and am thankful for our hot climate. You however describe it as a gleaming exciting adventure and describe this poem, as every other, with such imagery, that you were deservedly awarded POTD, CONGRATULATIONS dear friend, enjoy the day and night. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

An amazingly penned Quatern. “nights anguish”, “landscapes caught in throe”. How do you come up with these? Warmest congratulations on POTD, Vijay

Congratulations Vijay on this POTD. Please don't long for it here in the north eastern part of the US until after Christmas. It is pristine and cleansing but I selfishly want to be with some of my family this year. LOL
