The Holy Spirit hovered o’er the darkness of the deep,
involved in all creation; earth still formless and asleep.
The breath of God’s own mouth: Ruach, declaring “Let there be…”
enacting each commandment; thus began earth’s history.
The Holy Spirit hovers o’er the darkness of my deep:
those corners of my heart where I allow the good to sleep.
The breath of life that woke the dead and calmed the raging sea
still breathes and fills the lungs of faith – it reaches even me.
// The meaning of the Hebrew word ruach is "breath," or "wind," or "spirit." //
