Crunching Leaves

Deer no longer sneak Crisp fall leaves give them away ....not able to hide. Birds walking on ground Picking through the crunching leaves to find what's hidden. Red and gold carpet Is so noisy underfoot Nothing can hide there. Squirrels hiding food Assume we do not hear them Running through the leaves.

Truly picturesque, Francine and the progression is very fine. Thank you as always. Sorry about the lag, but life has caught up to me. Regards, Gerard

Enjoyed this one very much...I got a chuckle thinking about the animals giving away their hiding places...It is such a change from summer for them ..Must take a little while for them to adjust..If this is for the multiple Haiku contest good luck with this sure winner..Thanks for stopping by and reading my work...Sara

The sounds of crunching leaves make it hard for critters (and people) to sneak up to you in fall, Francine. Really enjoyed the images. Diane

Wonderful fall images in your haiku series, Francine! Laughed when I read the last verse; squirrels have no brains. We are always hearing people referred to as "bird brains," but the squirrels can't even decide which way to run when a car approaches. The crunch of autumn leaves reveals the antics of all creatures -- even children approaching your door on Halloween. Enjoyed very much. Love, Carolyn
