Conscious Of You
All of it was supposed to be sleep.
Then the dark, pulling lids open—
For I was not feeling like myself.
I wanted to see it
So I came to the mirror. “This
Is not me!” I scream, at the look of a pale ghost
With tear-stained black coal eyes and red hot cheeks—
Something did that to my will when I was
Dreaming of you.
I kneel wide-eyed, bleeding-eyed,
Then I’m back—glass on glass.
I needed you to hold—will you take this gray mind,
weak and barred?
I cough vitals uncontrollably
The sanity—
That place I carry you in, home.
