Coming Back Home
Coming back home might not be what I would hope
Once I get there, I’ll need to open a faded envelope,
Making explanations for the actions of my youth
I will discover anew my abandoned bitter truth;
Now that time has separated my years of strife
Giving me in maturity, another glimpse at my life.
Because I am no longer who I was back then,
And nothing is as it might have been years ago, when
Childhood morphed into wayward youth, and shame
Killed all my hopes for a life free of guilt and blame.
Home to unravel the origins of those shattered years,
Only to confront a youth caressed by mindless fears;
My opportunity, as well, to make some crucial amends
Especially, to renew broken ties with forgotten friends.
