My mistress lovingly prepared me She gave me so much attention Smothering me in butter Then lashings of egg mayonnaise filling I was surrounded on the plate by my fellow sandwiches Cheese and tomato, ham and mustard and tuna and sweetcorn There was a little salad relish too Oh we looked so tempting … in fact good enough to eat One by one my brothers disappeared Until I was the only sandwich left on the plate Over time my shoulders started to curl up a little I had tried so hard to look alluring At the end of the party I remained alone… Why is it there is always ONE item of food left on a party plate And why did it have to be ME? Next time you attend a party do think of the feelings of the poor solitary sandwich or sausage roll as there is always just one left Come and find me in my solitude Contest Sponsored by Mystic Rose received an N/A Submitted to Screwed XV Sponsored by Rob Carmack 12~03~16

Very creative poem my friend. I too shy away from eating the last item on a platter at a party. That is, unless I arrived late and its one of my favorite food items. If that occurs I take it to gobble right on down... Always a pleasure to read your fine work my friend.

Lovely. Imagine if inanimate objects really had feeling! Putting the perspectives like this out there for us is a really good thing. It humbles us and teaches us to think empathetically. I wish you well!!

Oh my u gave a completely different twist to the contest title and the poem was tongue in cheek, super cool and it could be applied to humans too when they feel left out, though its no nice to be eaten and disappear into bellies all gobbled up., as parties may cause harm too. He description was delicious poetic too . Kudos. So nice to read from u again. Happy hols.

Yours is a unique take on this solitude theme, Jan. I was offered that last sandwich and refused it...I realized it had egg mayonnaise filling, and I can't stand it:) Hugs // paul

Why sorry, single sandwich? Why not being happy? As if being eaten, chewed by sharp teeth, drowned in semi-liquid mucus, is such a pleasure? Survive with dignity. Keep those shoulders straight, curl your hair and smile! Good luck in the contest :)

Probably a good thing I wasn't at the party. I would have eaten it. But then we would not have your poem, Jan. Fun stuff! I Love the originality!!

OK you got me again, I was expecting a romantic painting, then the poem, wow this is creative and we have all been there. If it helps, I stare at that lonely sandwich, just dont want to be caught eating the last one!!!!!!

I was waiting for you to say that I'm one sandwich short of a picnic lol:-) I like Doug's comment - take the last 2 sandwiches then the last lonely sandwich will no longer exist:-):-) hugs jan xx

Too cute. This really brought a smile to my face. Very cleverly done. Never thought of a sandwich thinking,"Eat Me First!" Nice job. God Bless, JB

Thanks Judy - next time you go to a party keep an eye on the platters at the end of the night - you will find one sandwich, sausage roll etc as no one wants to be seen to eat the last one!:-) hugs jan xx

What a cute and creative way to write for the contest! Kudos, Jan - just great. I think your 1st line wanted 'lovingly'. I loved this, way to think and write and deliver out of the box! All the best in all things ... CayCay

Hahahahaaa!! What a great take on the topic, Jan. It can work that way in the grocery store as well - maybe there's one head of cabbage or bunch of broccoli left - and it will just sit there, mournful, forlorn, forever. May be perfectly fine - if it was still in the chorus line, we'd gladly pick it up and put it in our cart. But now it's an orphan, and everybody assumes there's something wrong with it.

It may not be what Vienna is after for the contest but I went to a party last night and as per usual there is always just ONE item of food left on each platter and no one wants to be seen to take it lol:-) hugs Jan xx
