Collected Sounds

I wonder how I came to be My inner self's best symphony I started out with sweet, sweet blends Inclined to avoid the long-held ends. Came those days of anxious fears They characterized my middle years When sustaining wage and family Was all I ever deigned to see. Somewhere along my merry way I collected noises where'er they lay Unaware they gathered in my brain They caused me neither joy nor pain. They lingered there throughout my life And now they play me like a fife I wonder how I came to be This amalgam of cacophony. FIRST PLACE WINNER Brian Strand's Contest on Poetry Soup

Hi Milton, I love the way this poem explores your sense of self. Identifying self as "...amalgam of cacophony." is quite original. I think of how toddlers like to bang things as they play. They seem to be asserting their identities. Thanks for sharing it!

Ah, how right you are, Thomas. Interesting that now in my advanced age the random noises are still playing inside my brain. Perhaps at the very end, they will be a symphony. I hope!

Well it doesn't sound like a bad thing Milton. Especially when written so beautifully :)
