Childhood Memories
"How sweet to the heart are the scenes of my childhood"
Samuel Woodworth, 1785-1842
my thoughts gathered like seashells on this sand
i watch this sun rise a bloodied red sphere
lifting from the sea, beneath it i stand
i am alone again, it's death i fear
yet i hear you whispering through this air
a mother's voice now tarries on my ear
i close my eyes just to see us all there
soft lonely whispers fall through ocean's sound
relentless like these moments we now share
as time waits for no one, so i have found
cherished are the seconds where you reside
in childhood memories that now astound
on the ocean's edge with you by my side
i feel a thunderous roar of my heart
wallowing over this pain that i hide
i open my eyes as you now depart
watching these gulls as their wings spread apart
