Childhood
Childhood
Childhood runs barefoot to catch the winds –
Then captures fireflies in a jar;
Tastes new snowflakes on the whirlwinds;
Tickles the toes of the North Star;
Makes snow angels in the front yard;
Plays games of tag with giggling rains;
Rides on sunbeams ‘cross whimsy’s plains;
Plays heroes, villains– all pretend;
Flies balloons – with a dream’s refrain;
Follows clear rainbows to the end.
Childhood stretches up to reach tall;
Builds treehouses to touch the sky;
Stands up again after a fall;
Tests new heights – giving stilts a try;
Wishes for breezes – kites to fly;
Four leaf clovers always pursues;
Looks for magic in secret clues;
Runs through puddles in sheer delight;
Rests upon puffy clouds of blues;
Snuggles down wrapped up in moonlight.
