Can I Dig Deep

Can I now burrow that deep hole? The place I know, so near the bank of that one river where the leaves near touch the water flowing slow. That is where whispers talk to wind where earthy fragrance soothes my soul Can I dig deep, reveal the place that brings me sleep, that gives me peace? Where ripples gently kiss my feet, where flowers smile at willows sad to give them strength, so tenderly. If I sit here for this last night, cover my legs with stardust light, can I be in this bed of clay? Can I sleep there in peace, and stay? *** April 12, 2017, Iambic tetrameter, Copyright © Darren White

Wonderful poem, Darren. I love every line but I especially like: "where flowers smile at willows sad to give them strength, so tenderly." Beautiful!

Darren Darren Darren. Yes you can. You are the lion in the Wizard of Oz, you are Samson of Samson and Deliah, more importantly, you are you. This entry is over the top Darren. So very expressive with the emotive element being present. Have a great night but its probably morning for you right now. Well done in its entirety and then some.

Your poem seems peaceful :) though sad in it's finality :( I love the pictures you've created: ripples gently kiss my feet. One could actually feel the water. Lovely write my friend.

I know it sounds sad, and as I already replied to Chris, it isn't my intention to make people feel sad :) Thanks my friend :)

Yes, exactly, I know that for many it must sound horrible, but to me it is a soothing thought :)

This is beautiful, Darren. I was gonna say what Chris said, it's multi-directional yearning at its finest. Stay away from the clay on happy poem day!

Sounds like a final wish my friend. It is soft and lulling but dark at the same time. Still all in all, beautifully written.

Hi Chris, yes it is. It is one of a series actually, with clay men, golems, digging through earth, planting seeds :) They all are separate, but each represents that yes, a final place to rest.
