Can I be considered a Poet If I don't know the styles Or is it more about expressing Life's joys and it's trials I forget about the formula I rarely get it right I place the words upon the page In hopes that they take flight They never have a chance to fly Without you reading them You are my motivation That's why I do it all again Exchange of ideas Words can cast a spell Lines on a page With a story to tell

I can relate to this, in the past two months I have learned soo much on styles and forms, but through it all, my heart and soul is in every word. and I read and relate to you so perfectly.

Yes. Write, write, and write some more. Some of it's verse and some of it's prose. Anything we write will be half in the dung heap anyway. Until you have 107 people tell you that it's good (because at least 5 of those people are family/friends and 101 is cliche). Make up your own forms if you don't know. Someone had to make up the sonnet anyway.

words straight from heart reach other hearts easily and without any effort....doesn't matter how artistic and sophisticated words are ,if they don't hv a soul they would never leave a mark... your words are full of soul so they will always take the flight and cast a spell...:))

Thanks Jack, it is sometimes good to know less and be unrestrained by the rules. On the other hand we may be limiting our ability to fully express ourselves ?

i agree with john w. there's a poet within everyone/ some don't let it out/but your last lines poetically express what poets are about.

Yes, I think in our current society Poetry is undervalued. It is good to be part of a community that appreciates this form of communication. Thanks for taking time to weigh in
