Bigger and Better

You shouldn't have been so greedy
And at the feed box shovin'.
For every four pounds that you gained
It's an hour in the oven.
I'm sorry if your Thanksgiving
Is something less than happy.
You should have listened to your ma
When she talked about your pappy.
She said that he was greedy,
Chased the others from the trough.
He was so big and looked so good
They chopped his proud head off.
Your brothers not so bold as you
Will live for another year.
I grab another drumstick as
I brush away a tear.

This is so funny, Joyce! Had a good laugh reading it. The "meatiest" turkeys are indeed the best. Did you see the movie "Babe"? There was a duck who was afraid of being cooked, so he became somewhat anorectic. Just saw the movie again and, next to Babe of course, the duck was my favorite character. Thank you so much for this pick-me-up poem! Love, Carolyn

The realism of this write is a many-sided jewel that causes one to gaze deeper into the verses to extract as much as they can.You are a gifted writer that tells about things as they are.Sincerely,Eric
