["Beauty and the Poet" was first published in the Cardinal Poetry Quarterly circa 1965. It was included in my first poetry chapbook, The Lady in the Pink Hat, Candor Press, 1969.]

Beauty floated to me on silken wind And hovered hands outspread to offer free The gifts of Muses tone and harmony That I might write where scenes and visions blend. Beauty (she rarely comes to mortal fools) Pressed her precious secrets in my spirit Whispered a dream--only I could hear it Then shared with me alone the poet's tools.

"Beauty (she rarely comes to mortal fools)" As an artist, poet and painter I adored this line!

I'm glad you liked it. It was written a long time ago, but I think it is still appropriate.

Wow, I love the flow of rhymes and imagery here, especially 'where scenes and visions blend' - we are lucky to be visited by the beauty of Muse - am adding to my Faves :)

I am so happy you enjoyed it, Michelle. Just goes to show what anyone wrote long, long ago can have meaning for someone a long time in the future. You've pointed out the need for good anthologies which preserve poets' work. I appreciate your comment so much.
