Image result for barn swallowsOne has a nest on our carport. I enjoy seeing them and sometimes only their shadow as they catch bugs in flight. I hope they are eating a lot of insects that would be coming through our carport door if they were not there.

Such a fine Haiku of nature's winged creatures. The last line is especially effective as it conveys the ominous presence of a buzzard, watchful of barn swallow feasting. Congratulations! Loved it! Brian

Thanks for dropping by, Brian. I appreciate the visit and kind review of my work. The pair of swallows are still out there and I see them at their regular intervals in flight catching those nasty flying insects which would be coming in our house. I think maybe the baby birds have taken flight or they are almost ready. Sara

that would be a lovely sight - but maybe not so nice if the buzzard felt hungry, LOL

The hungry babies are waiting with their mouths open. I don't think it will be much longer until the fledglings are ready for flight. I wonder if they will stick around for the rest of the summer. Your visits are refreshing. Sara

With expertly conveyed thoughts and stunning imagery, Sara has captured the joy of observing birds preying on insects and bugs. The haiku displays a keen attention to detail, particularly in the observation of the barn swallow near the carport. Well done.

Sara, wonderful haiku, have you tried the merlin bird app, it can record and identify birds, fun to be able to watch nesting birds.

Tania, No, I haven't tried the app. I don't use my cell-phone very often. It stays in my pocketbook in the closet. I do have a bird identification book and the internet though. I am sure the app would be more accurate though if I could take a picture and send it to someone who is an expert and let them figure it out. Sara

It is fun watching birds preying on insects and bugs. I am sure you spend a lot of time watching the barn swallow close to your carport. Well written haiku....

Valsa, I see them out of the corner of my eye as they leave the nest going in flight to get bugs to feed their young. The babies have really grown. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Sounds like the barn swallow's about to get his for swallowing all those bugs... What goes around, comes around. Now, who will swallow up that buzzard?!

Gershon, Mostly buzzards(vultures) if killed by a car when they are eating a dead deer or armadillo, will just lie there until there are only bones, so I guess nothing even ants will eat them. Kind of a replusive species of birds but needed. Sara

- We have many barn swallows here ... I haven't seen their nest this year ... last year they built by the front door ( didn't want a nest there)... I blew up a plastic glove and hung it by their construction ... then they disappeared - A lovely haiku, Sara :) - hugs

I agree with that. My dog wants to enjoy the poo but, alas, I have to stop her. Sara

Anne-Lise, They are a nice bird to have around because they eat mosquitoes, gnats, fruit flies and other small flying insects. A few around can help with insect control but they can make a mess in and around a place. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Well, Victor, that would be sad if the bird died but alas he/she is alive a well. It was the swallow's shadow that I was seeing but it looked huge like a buzzard(vulture) sailing overhead. Your visits always inspire me. Sara
