Rondine
A Rondine has the following characteristics:
12-line poem, 2 stanzas, 7 lines in the first stanza; 5 lines in the second
with 8 or 10 syllables per line, except in the 7th and 12th lines, all 8 or all 10
7th and 12th lines are a refrain. The refrain comes from the opening word
or phrase of the poem Rhyme pattern looks like this:
(Ra)bbaabR/abbaR, with R part of line 1(a).
Fueling Autumn's color change each year
are shorter days and cooler, longer nights,
and a plucky October breeze that bites.
Vermilion, crimson, and scarlet appear
as emerald canopies disappear.
And Jack Frost competes with the northern lights,
fueling Autumn's color change.
As though pulled by stings of a puppeteer
leaves dance, one of nature's impressive sights,
they take to the air on fanciful flights.
And November shifts Fall into high gear,
fueling Autumn's color change.
