Michelle, your poignant pen spills with the pain of broken promises, the ache of failed expectations in the wake of drowned anticipation.. your poem lingers on my mind and in my heart as the disappointment sinks ever deeper.. a haunting piece. I ever admire your gifted pen, my friend. Congratulations for your excellent win in Brian's contest. dear poetess.. ~Susan

I'm reminded of a 'promise' made 4 years in advance of an event (it was to attend a summer Olympics). When reminded later, it was 'oh, I never made that promise'. Still stings. I feel the sting in this rhyme. Well done.

This is about my relationship with my father - which is still distant to this day, we are more like polite acquaintances than family - thank you for sharing your story, a broken promise is painful.

Sad in itself and sad that promises are made so flippantly. Deep and very profound and well put!!!.........pat
